What Is Professional Wallpaper Installation?
Professional wallpaper installation, also called wallpaper hanging, wall covering installation, or wallpaper fitting, is the practice of plumbing, pattern-matching, and adhering decorative wall coverings to interior surfaces. A trained installer assesses the wall substrate, selects the correct adhesive for the material, plumbs the first drop to laser level, and applies each subsequent strip with book-matched seams pressed flat. Professional results differ from DIY in seam invisibility, pattern continuity at corners and ceiling lines, and correct adhesive open time, which determines whether expensive materials like grasscloth and silk survive the installation at all.
What Does Professional Wallpaper Installation Include?
- +Wall inspection and substrate assessment for imperfections that would telegraph through the paper
- +Skim coating, patching, and primer application to achieve a wallpaper-ready surface
- +Adhesive selection matched to paper type: paste-the-wall, paste-the-paper, or dry-back adhesive
- +Laser-plumb first drop and pattern-matched subsequent strips at eye level throughout
- +Seam rolling, air bubble removal, and corner trimming to achieve invisible joins
- +Floor and trim protection, full cleanup, and a room walkthrough before the crew leaves

Common Concerns
Why Toronto Homeowners Choose Us Over Any Other Installer
"I'm worried about damaging my $800-per-roll grasscloth."
We have handled de Gournay, Schumacher, and Phillip Jeffries papers for 25+ years. Every luxury material gets assessed, primed, and colour-batched before we touch the wall.
"I've had installers leave visible seams before."
Every drop is plumbed to a laser line. Every seam is book-matched and rolled twice. We do not leave the room until the seams are invisible at arm's length.
"I don't know if my walls are ready."
Wall assessment is part of every quote. Skim coating, priming, and levelling are quoted upfront so you see the full number before we start.
"I'm not sure what this will cost."
We quote in writing within 24 hours. Itemized labour and prep, no scope creep, no surprise charges on invoice day.
"I need it done around my schedule."
Mon to Fri 8am to 6pm with Saturday availability. Most residential single-room jobs are finished in one visit. Multi-room sequencing is standard for whole-home installs.
"Will you clean up properly?"
Floors and trim are protected before the first roll opens. Full cleanup before we leave. The only thing different about your home will be the wall.

What Can Go Wrong
Why Wallpaper Projects Go Wrong
Ruined Luxury Paper
Silk and grasscloth are unforgiving. A single tear, the wrong adhesive, or a rushed seam on a $1,000-per-roll paper cannot be undone. Inexperienced installers learn on your investment.
Visible Seams and Misaligned Patterns
Poor pattern matching, an off-plumb first drop, and rushed seams create lines your eye catches every time you walk into the room. Good wallpaper, poorly hung, is worse than none at all.
Drywall Damage from Bad Removal
DIY wallpaper removal tears the paper face off drywall. Without proper skim coating afterward, every flaw telegraphs through the new install, no matter how expensive the paper.

Wallpaper FAQs for Toronto Homeowners
How much does wallpaper installation cost in Toronto?
Standard labour runs $1 to $7 per square foot. Per roll, expect $8 to $14 for vinyl, $14 to $18 for grasscloth, and $18 to $25 for silk or hand-painted. A typical bedroom runs $400 to $1,100 in labour. We send a written quote in 24 hours so you know the number before any work starts.
Do you provide free quotes and estimates?
Yes. Free written quotes within 24 hours by phone, email, or in person. Quotes are based on room dimensions, ceiling height, number of corners, and the specific material you have chosen.
Which GTA cities do you service for wallpaper installation?
We serve all of the GTA: Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Markham, Aurora, Brampton, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, North York, Etobicoke, Scarborough, Burlington, Whitby, Oshawa, and surrounding communities. Yorkville, Forest Hill, and Rosedale are home turf for our luxury and heritage installations. No travel surcharges within our service area.
What types of wallpaper do you install?
Every type. Standard and Type II vinyl, grasscloth, silk, linen, cork, fabric-backed papers, peel-and-stick, hand-printed, custom murals, and ASTM E84 Class A fire-rated commercial wallcoverings. We have direct experience with de Gournay, Schumacher, Phillip Jeffries, Cole & Son, and Farrow & Ball.
Do you remove old wallpaper before installing new?
Yes. We remove existing wallpaper without damaging your drywall using steam, scoring, or chemical solution depending on the paper and substrate. We then skim-coat and prime the wall before installing the new paper. Removal can also be booked as a standalone service.
Do you handle both residential and commercial wallpaper installation?
Yes. Residential and commercial are both core services. We carry $2 to $5 million general liability insurance. Certificates of Insurance are provided on request for commercial bids: required documentation for offices, hotels, restaurants, and retail sites.
How long does wallpaper installation take?
Most single rooms are completed in one day, including prep and cleanup. A powder room is often 2 to 4 hours; a bedroom or living room runs 4 to 8 hours. Multi-room jobs and large custom murals are typically 2 to 4 days. Wallpaper removal alone usually takes a half-day to a full day per room depending on layers and adhesive.
Do you offer a warranty on your workmanship?
Yes. All residential installations carry a 2-year workmanship warranty covering seam adhesion, alignment, and pattern matching. If a seam lifts or a drop shifts within two years, we come back and fix it at no charge. Material defects are handled in coordination with the supplier.
Can you install wallpaper in humid rooms like bathrooms and powder rooms?
Yes. Powder rooms are one of our most popular installations. We use moisture-tolerant adhesives, mildew-resistant primers, and recommend Type II vinyl, grasscloth with a sealed backing, or peel-and-stick for high-humidity walls. Full bathrooms are case-by-case: we assess ventilation and direct splash exposure before quoting.
Do you offer eco-friendly wallpaper and adhesives?
Yes. We work with VOC-free clay and starch-based pastes, water-based primers, and eco-certified papers from York Wallcoverings, Phillip Jeffries natural fibres, and FSC-certified printed papers. If low-VOC is important to you, tell us at the quote stage and we will spec the full system to match.
Can you install custom murals or design custom wallpaper?
Yes. We install multi-panel custom murals from any printer including Phototex, Rebel Walls, Tempaper, and bespoke commissions from local Toronto artists. We measure the room before you order, dry-fit panels before applying adhesive, and align every drop so the mural centres correctly.
How messy is the installation? Will my house be liveable during the job?
Surprisingly clean. Wallpaper installation is paste and paper, not sanding and dust. Floors and trim are protected before we start, paste is contained at the table, and we sweep and wipe before we leave. Most clients stay home or work from home during the install with no disruption.
How do I prepare my walls before wallpaper installation?
You don't have to. Wall assessment and prep are part of every job. We inspect the substrate, fill nail holes, sand any gloss paint, skim-coat where the wall is rough, and prime with a substrate-matched primer before any paper goes up. Prep is quoted upfront so you see the number before we start.
What is the best wallpaper for a rental unit?
Peel-and-stick. It removes cleanly without damage to drywall when installed correctly, takes hours instead of days, and gives renters the look of real wallpaper without the lease violation. We install Tempaper, RoomMates, Chasing Paper, and NuWallpaper. Confirm with your landlord first; most allow it on a single accent wall.
How do I book wallpaper installation? What happens after I contact you?
Call (647) 800-4724 or use our online quote form. Tell us your room dimensions, the material you have chosen (or are considering), and your preferred timeline. We respond with a written estimate within 24 hours. Once approved, we book the install date, confirm material delivery, and arrive on the scheduled day with everything needed to finish in one visit.
How do you choose the right adhesive for my wallpaper?
Adhesive selection depends on paper type, substrate, and open time requirements. Paste-the-wall adhesive works for most standard and non-woven papers. Paste-the-paper adhesive is used for traditional papers that need to soak and expand before hanging. Dry-back adhesive is used for Type II commercial vinyl where a stronger bond and longer repositioning window is needed. We assess your material before any adhesive is mixed and confirm compatibility before installation day.
Do you install wallpaper in high-rise condos and restricted-access buildings?
Yes. We regularly work in Yorkville, Rosedale, and Forest Hill condos that require freight elevator bookings, concierge coordination, Certificates of Insurance on request. We handle the building management documentation, schedule around quiet hours, and bring protective covers that meet high-rise standards. There is no extra charge for condo logistics within our service area.
